History

In order to follow the aims which were determined in First Health Congress which held in 1991 in order to increase efficiency in health services, ‘Reconstructing Health Education’ project which aims to carry out midwifery, nursing and medical assistantship education in parallel to European Union norms in undergraduate level and it was aimed to make ‘Country Model’ the new system. 79 health occupation high-schools were established in order to accomplish the objective by 96/8655 numbered cabinet decision in 10.10.1996. A protocol is signed between the ministry of health and the council of higher education in 22.11.1996 to accomplish the objective that health occupation high-schools continue education in medical vocational high schools’ buildings which is belong to the ministry of health. Sakarya University Health Occupation High-School was opened thanks to cabinet decision which is indicated above, and started to education in 1997-1998 educational year after Nursing program opening with 78 students that are spread into two categories that 38 of them were Nursing first grade and the 40 of them were in undergraduate finish program. Midwifery program was opened in 1998-1999 educational year with 9 first grade and 40 undergraduate finish program. As of April 8, 2016, the Faculty of Health Sciences continues its academic activities and continues its education in 2019 with 327 midwifery students.
